Teal is a seed-stage startup that allows SMB neobanks and vertical SaaS companies to build accounting products for their customers. Neobanks and vertical saas companies are expanding their product suites to sell more fintech products into their SMB customers, and our product is positioned as a perfect expansion opportunity for them.

We are the founding team that previously built Bench Accounting from idea to a successful business with >$100M raised and >600 employees. We’re back in the SMB accounting space, this time working on a bigger idea with a much bigger potential outcome.

We’ve closed our first customers and have a very basic sales process in place. We have an excellent early product that prospects and customers are excited about. Now we’re hiring our first sales execs to start scaling up sales.

This is a very consultative sale that requires you to deeply understand the product and the customers. You’ll be selling to product executives (typically the head of product, or startup CEO/CTO) and need to present as competent and credible to these sophisticated buyers.

You’ll be sourcing your own deals, and taking our basic sales playbook and evolving it. While there are basic processes in place, there’s still a lot of “figuring it out” to do. We’re a very small team, and there’s no coach or safety net. We need you to be a seasoned sales exec that knows how to network into prospects, work your leads, and keep yourself on track to your goals.

We are a fully remote team working from Canada and the US. This role mostly involves working from home, with travel to offsites 4 times a year, and of course travel to customers to close the biggest deals.

What you’ll do here

  • Own the full sales cycle from sourcing to close, with marketing and execs supporting you.
  • Engage in highly consultative sales that can take months or quarters to close.
  • Use the rest of our team and org strategically as required to bring deals home.
  • Beat your quota.
  • Work with highly competent colleagues and reinforce our culture of competence.

What you bring to the table

  • 5+ years of experience in sales, business development, or partnership roles.
  • Experience selling software or fintech products with deal sizes (ACVs) $100k+.
  • Experience working in a startup as one of the first sales reps.
  • Experience closing deals yourself - not just teeing them up for a closer.
  • Experience collaborating with sales engineers, product managers, executives, etc. to close your deals. Success here requires you to bring your team in at the right time.
  • A hunger to win and a track record of beating quota.

Bonus points

  • Experience selling embedded fintech products (e.g. payments, banking).
  • Experience with accounting or selling accounting products.
  • Experience as a sales engineer, or another technical role.

Compensation

Canada: $350k CAD OTE: $150k salary, $200k target commission, plus stock options. No extended health benefits. USA: $300k USD OTE: $150k salary, $150k target commission, plus stock options, benefits and 401k.
